Field trip to the Harvey Butler Rhododendron Sanctuary

Join Bud Sechler, staff Ecological Programs Coordinator at Native Plant Trust, for a field study of this five-acre stand of great laurel, the largest and most northern stand known in the region. This walk also explores the multitude of native plant gems on the rest of Native Plant Trust’s 30-acre property, from yellow blue-bead lily to painted trillium, and from hemlock to northern white cedar. Bud shares the site’s secrets for managing for minimal invasive plants.

Habitat: Northern hardwood/hemlock-northern hardwood, wetland
Known for: Great Laurel, several woody and herbaceous specimens
Difficulty: Easy/moderate
