There is no running water for drinking, so please bring what you need.
Parking is in a large, mowed field. There are marked, accessible parking spaces next to the farmhouse.
The landscape of the Native Seed Center includes gravel paths, uneven ground, and possible wet areas.
There are two unheated outhouses available, one accessible via ramp. Handwashing sinks are available.

Members will get first access to the largest selection of our available species but no additional discounts. You can still apply your 10% discount on merchandise or guides purchased at the plant sale.

Plants replenished throughout the day for all of the time slots. Coming later in the day does not mean that your desired species will be sold out already.

Great question! Members receive a FREE copy of our annual native gardening guide each year, 10% off in our online shop, monthly member Q&A’s with our knowledgeable staff, and invitations to special members-only events, like seed swaps, garden tours, and potlucks.

The plant sale will be held at our Native Seed Center at Turkey Hill Farm, 120 Old Ocean House Drive, Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107. Look for a yellow sign at the end of the drive.

We’ll have a few carts and wagons on-site and volunteers to help move plants to your car, but please bring your own if you can. Supply is limited and demand is high :)

No, you cannot. The Native Plant Sale is a two-day, in-person community event. You’ll get the chance to browse, learn from plant experts (and each other!) and tour the Native Seed Center.

Unfortunately, no, not from Wild Seed Project. But, there are more and more nurseries growing native plants! Please check out our Native Plant Nursery Directory to find a nursery near you to support.

We’ll have merch and guides on site, but not seeds. Seeds will be available for purchase on our website during this time. Our big seed restock will be in early October.

We’ll have cardboard trays available for $1. Please bring your own if you can.

Registration is required for Members Only Day on Saturday. Members will receive a registration link via email on August 25.

There will be hour-long slots available on Member Day (Saturday, September 12). Once you arrive at the plant sale and sign in, you are free to remain as long as you’d like, you do not have to leave before the next hour.
If you join or renew your membership the week ahead of the sale, please email us at shop@wildseedproject.net and we’ll see if there are time slots still available.

There will be a large, mowed field for parking when you turn into Turkey Hill Farm and along the driveway up to the house. There will be “no parking” signs along Old Ocean House Road, please do not park along the road!
Volunteer greeters will be there to help guide you. More accessible spots are saved by the farmhouse itself.

There are two parking areas at the farm.
If a shorter walk will support your access to the event, park in the upper area near the farmhouse. There are regular spaces, and marked Accessible Spaces available. If a longer walk is okay, please park in the lower lot.
The greenhouse and nursery areas are located a short distance from the upper parking area, around the back of the barn. To get there, attendees will need to cross gravel paths, uneven ground, and possible wet areas.

All plants are grown from seed, either by Wild Seed Project staff at our nursery at Turkey Hill Farm or by trained and experienced volunteers in our region. All plants are grown using (non-certified) organic growing practices without the use of harmful pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. We pot all of our seedlings in potting soil from Coast of Maine or Living Acres.

It’s possible. If the plant(s) you were hoping for are sold out, we’ll help you find alternatives— we’ll have species for every type of growing condition. Even bogs!

No, we only sell plants in person and cannot ship plants.

For some species, yes. All seed has been collected from plants in Maine or the Northeastern US. Ask a team member if you’re looking for specific ecotypic species.

All seed collected by Wild Seed Project, and used to grow our plants, has been sustainably collected either at our Native Seed Center or with landowner permission.

Dogs are allowed on the property, but are not allowed in the fenced nursery area where plants are displayed. Please keep in mind that this is a busy event on a working farm.

Fall is a great time to plant native plants. As the weather cools, plants’ water needs begin to lessen. It’s best to give plants about a month of growing time before a hard frost or dormancy. This will allow plants’ root systems to anchor themselves into the ground and minimize the risk of heaving during freeze/thaw.

The Native Plant Sale is our biggest fundraising event of the year. Funds raised from this event support the expansion of our Native Seed Center, our community-based programs including Free Seeds for Teachers, experiential ecology programs in Maine schools, free educational resources, seed sowing workshops, and more.
