In Person: Spring Four Season Walk at Thorne Head

  • Thorne Head Preserve Whiskeag Trail Bath, ME, 04530 United States (map)

Come walk Thorne Head Preserve in Bath as we get to know the character of this place in spring.

This is the first of four walks, spaced throughout the year in each unique season, where we will all engage in observing and asking questions of our surroundings, and identifying the varied plants, shrubs, trees, ferns, and wildlife along the trail. Each season brings something new and spectacular to look at. (For this spring walk, if we have time at the end, we’ll go check out the salamander survey citizen science project, too.) The goal of these walks is to foster relationships with place through relationships with plants, and encourage further stewardship of our community spaces. Come walk and learn about Thorne Head Preserve in all its seasons with Wild Seed Project! 2025 marks the 25th birthday of the preserve, and we’re excited to celebrate this special place together.

The Thorne Head Preserve series is hosted by WSP Seed Center Director Emily Baisden, and offered in partnership with Kennebec Estuary Land Trust. Donations and membership helps keep these events accessible! You can donate to Kennebec Estuary Land Trust here, and you can donate to Wild Seed Project here.

Parking at the preserve is limited. Please register for the event so we know to expect you!

Notes on access: The walk will follow a 1/2 mile loop, and move at a leisurely pace.  The first portion of the trail is broad and flat.  The second half, along the Pond Connector trail, has some gentle inclines, and some slightly uneven ground to navigate. To come prepared, wear sturdy walking shoes, dress in layers, bring water, and plan to do a thorough tick check afterward. Please let us know if there are ways we can support getting you to the event!
