Native Plant Walk at Runaway Farm

  • 533 Spurwink Avenue Cape Elizabeth, ME, 04107 United States (map)

Here at Wild Seed Project, we’re grateful to partner with Cape Elizabeth Land Trust — our Native Seed Center is located at their beautiful Turkey Hill Farm Preserve property. Wonderful native habitat can be found throughout the many other CELT trails and preserves, too! For this walk, we’ll explore Runaway Farm. Runaway Farm features diverse ecosystems, from meadow, to forest, to wetland, and is home to the endangered cottontail rabbit, among many other mammals, birds, insects and more. We’ll talk about the diverse native plants of this place and the wildlife they support. This walk is led by Cole Campbell, Production Horticulturist at Native Plant Trust, alum of both WSP and CELT, and longtime resident of Southern Maine. We’re so excited they’re sharing their expertise and deep knowledge of this corner of the world with us!

Notes on access: The walk will follow a loop somewhere between 1 - 1 ½ miles. The terrain is uneven with some roots and mud, but very little elevation change. As a group, we will meet in the parking lot of Spurwink Church, and walk together to the southern trailhead to Runaway Farm. (Note this is not the northern trailhead at Gull Crest). To come prepared, bring good walking shoes, dress in layers, bring water and remember sun and insect protection. As always, plan on a thorough tick check after the program. Let us know if there are any ways we can help get you to the event. Hope to see you there!
